Removing ear-shell off the surface without causing harm is executable only during it's motion, when it's sinewy sole is less attached to the substrate.
When held, an abalone rolls and scrolls it's orange foot, and tries to find any foothold to turn itself over, meanwhile showing a miraculous nacre of the inner, sacred side of the shell.
